Guides to odds, tips and the rules

Each guide answers one question, shows its arithmetic and names the section of the law it relies on. They are grouped by the question they answer, with the newest first inside each group.

Reading odds

Decimal and fractional odds, implied probability and what the price tells you.

  1. How to read decimal odds and implied probability in Kenya

Decimal odds show the return per shilling staked, and 1 divided by the odds gives the implied probability. KES examples, a conversion table and fractions.

  2. Accumulator (multibet) odds: how they multiply, and what happens to your chance

Multibet odds are the product of every leg's decimal odds. The chance of all legs winning shrinks faster than the payout grows, and the margins compound.

Judging tips

Sure tips, free tips, paid tips and how to read a tipster's record.

  1. Sure betting tips in Kenya: why no tip is ever certain to win

No betting tip is ever certain to win. See what the odds imply, how selective posts fake a perfect record, and what Kenyan advertising law says about it.

  2. How to track a tipster's record properly, step by step

Check a tipster's record by logging every tip before kick-off with the odds you could get, then judging ROI over a long run of tips, not the win rate.

  3. Free betting tips vs paid tips in Kenya: what you actually get

Free tips can be funded another way; paid tips add a fee to win back first. Compare incentives, cost and checkability, with the maths and red flags.

  4. Betting tips in Kenya: how to judge any tip before you act on it

A betting tip is an opinion with a price. How to judge any tip in Kenya: implied probability, margin, a full record, variance, scams and the law.

Value and variance

Margin, expected value and why results swing in the short run.

  1. Why winning streaks end: variance in betting, shown with a coin

Variance is the gap between short-run results and the average. Coin-flip tables show how often streaks happen by chance and why short records mislead.

  2. What is value in betting? Expected value explained in shillings

Value means the odds pay more than the true chance justifies. How to work out expected value in shillings, and why a value bet can still lose for weeks.

  3. Bookmaker margin (overround) explained, with a worked 1X2 example

Bookmaker margin is how far a market's implied probabilities add up above 100%. Work it out from the odds and see why every tip has to clear it.

Budgets and limits

Setting a budget, the limits the law gives you and the signs that tips have become a problem.

  1. How to set a betting budget and use the deposit limits Kenyan law gives you

Pick a sum you can lose, then set the deposit, loss, session and spending limits that L.N. 112 r.84 makes every licensee offer, with self-exclusion behind.

  2. Chasing losses after a bad tip: the signs, and the tools Kenyan rules give you

Chasing losses means staking more to win back what a bad tip cost. The signs, plus the deposit and session limits and self-exclusion the law requires.

Rules for tipsters

What Kenyan advertising law allows tipsters to claim and how to report the rest.

  1. Winning screenshots and testimonials: what Kenyan advertising law says

Kenya's 2026 Advertising Regulations ban testimonials, former winners and calls to action in gambling adverts, and s.87 of the Act requires approval.

  2. Betting tips on Telegram and WhatsApp: how the scams work in Kenya

How Telegram and WhatsApp tip scams work: free picks, edited slips, fixed match claims, payment to personal numbers, and where to report them in Kenya.

Odds words

Short definitions of the words tipsters and bookmakers use.

  1. What is a tipster?

A tipster publishes betting predictions, free or paid. A tipster can read form and prices but cannot know a result, and ad law limits claims.

  2. What are betting odds? Price and probability in one number

Betting odds are the price of a bet: they set the payout and imply a chance. Odds of 2.50 return KES 250 on KES 100, an implied 40% probability.
